Emmett and Barbara Young, residents at Life Care Center of Evergreen, Colorado, a skilled nursing and rehabilitation center, have been featured in a national magazine.
Life Care Centers of America manages more than 200 facilities around the country and publishes a handful of residents’ life stories each year in its LEADER magazine. The couple’s story was recently published in the 2019 edition.
The Youngs met while working in a Florida department store in 1952. Sharing quirky hobbies like rollerblading and making crafts, the couple soon fell in love and married after dating for six months. Looking for a fresh start after being drafted in World War II, Emmett went to beauty school and opened his own salon. With the shared dream of success in mind, Barbara handled the business side of the salon. Emmett became known for his cutting-edge style of dying hair vibrant colors.
Emmett and Barbara have two kids, Barry and Robin. Barbara and Emmett has shared a life full of adventures from nationwide travel to buying a fixer-upper cabin in Grand Lake, Colorado. During one of their summer travels, the Florida-based couple became enamored with Colorado and knew this state would one day be their home.
“I’ve had the best life of anyone I’ve ever met,” said Emmett. “Everything nice happens to me.”
Today, Emmett and Barbara are happiest when they get to share laughs and stories with others and observe the Colorado scenery they fell in love with many years ago.
